I was fairly close mates, with Jack Bruce. He always liked Eric’s playing and remained friends with him. Ginger though, when asked what it was like, playing with Cream, first praised Jack, then said……‘It was a shame about Eric. He could have been really good, if he hadn’t messed around with that Rock’n’Roll and stuck with the blues.’

Best thing Clapton ever did was on George Harrison's I'd Have You Anytime.
Lovely bit of subtle, understated guitar work here:

67 The G Davis Is Innocent crowd dug up the pitch and put oil on one end overnight before the last day of the 3rd Test at Headingley in 1975. Australia were leading 1-0 in the four Test series after an innings win at Edgbaston (Graham Gooch on debut ... 0 & 0) and were 220/3 overnight needing another 225 or so but with both Chappell's out & Rick McCosker 95no. Reckon England were probably favourites on balance. Match declared a draw and the 4th was also drawn.
The career criminal Davis I understand WAS innocent of the armed robbery he was jailed over (police withheld evidence which cleared him) but was later jailed for a couple of robberies he was involved in as a getaway driver.

Agree. My father in law ranks these three guitarists 1. Jeff Beck 2. Eric Clapton 3. Jimi Hendrix
He saw all them all and others and thought Hendrix was "too flashy'

Jimi Hendrix commented when seeing Cream play Strange Brew it had a profound influence on him how to play lead guitar.
But Cream was 3 brilliant musicians.

Doesn't really matter because Prince thought he was the greatest musician of all time. And he was brown.

As Swiss stated earlier, Clapton was shite after he left Cream and I never understood why. He had all those years, experience and influencers to draw upon but he never really progressed anything further than a pop muscian
